Although very brief, Titus Burckhardt’s “Mystical Astrology According to Ibn ‘Arabi” is one book that every astrologer who places any value in the cosmology underlying astrology must have. It is not a very easy book to read, as the language is concise and very concentrated. I would like to present a series of articles to supplement and expand on this very important astrological work.
The first chapter touches on many important topics. For example:
– Can astrology be integrated with a monotheistic religious perspective? And if so how? This question was very common in the middle ages.
– How do the geocentric and heliocentric systems relate to one another? Here the more modern question arises of how relevant a geocentric view is and whether it is reconcilable with the heliocentric system.
– What are the planetary spheres and how are they related to one another? What do they have to do with astrology?
– What are the principal roots of astrological symbolism?
We will be exploring these questions one by one…
