We have been divided
many times
and in many different ways.
Some find us in the heavens,
others on the ground.
We have the day,
We have the night.
North, south, east and west
never leave our sight.
Who are we?

O.K. Thomas, as I am champing at the bit for your next excruciatingly tortuous riddle, so here is an answer to number 4:
“We have been divided many times and in many different ways.”
~~ CarO ~~ The 12 mundane houses of the Celestial Sphere; there are some 30 odd different systems of ‘domification’ or ‘House Division’ currently in use!
“some find us in the heavens,
~~ CarO ~~. Those house systems which take as their theoretical basis the division of the Ecliptic for the creation of houses within the celestial sphere (Equal, Porphyry, Natural Graduation, M House etc.)
”others on the ground.”
~~ CarO ~~
Those systems which have as their conceptual foundation the volume of the Celestial Sphere without regard to the relationship of the Ecliptic to it, but use earth orientated references; such as the Prime Vertical for Campanus; the Equator for Regiomontanus; Axial Rotation and Morinus; and the Horizon for the Zenith system.
“We have the day”
~~ CarO ~~ Those houses above the Horizon of the Ascendant/Descendant axis (12; 11; 10; 9; 8; 7)
“We have the night.”
~~ CarO ~~ Those houses below the Horizon ( 1;2;3;4;5;6)
North, south, east and west
~~ CarO ~~ The four Cardinal Angles are the North = IC; the South = MC; the East = Ascendant; and the West = the Descendant
“never leave our sight”.
~~ CarO ~~ Each of the houses is ‘beheld’ by one or more of the four angles.
”Who are we?”
~~ CarO ~~ The 12 Mundane Houses
Howzat eh?
Love
CarO
Dear CarO,
Right you are!
This is even better than the answer that I prepared! 🙂
So I’ll post the “official” answer tomorrow, along with riddle 5!
best wishes,
Thomas
